We have partnered with the RYA’s online learning system, RYA Interactive, to offer the below courses online. Once you buy one of the RYA Interactive courses you will be emailed your login details and access instructions to the email address that was supplied during checkout.

If your course says it has course material to be posted it will be sent to the address supplied at checkout. If you want it to go to another address please type this in the notes field on the checkout page. Some of our courses include optional books to purchase. Our Online Course offerings

Course cost £15 per person

An online course aimed at Dinghy and Windsurfing Instructors and Seniors, and anyone else involved in working with children and/org vulnerable adults at an RYA club or training centre. Newly qualfiying Dinghy/Windsurfing Instructors and Senior Instructors are required to complete this course prior to their instructor course.

Course material to be posted to you – None

Required Experience – None

Minimum Duration – This course is equivalent to classroom training of approximately three hours. However, the benefit of learning online is that you can work through it at your own speed. It may take you more or less time than that.

Minimum Age – 16

Content – An introduction to safeguarding and child protection

Certificate Issuing Criteria – Understand good safeguarding practice, how to recognise potential signs of abuse, how to deal with it and who to refer any concerns to.

RYA Safe and Fun – ONLINE

Course cost £100 per person

A basic introduction to navigation and safety for anyone new to boating: sailors, powerboaters, sea anglers, divers and boatmasters. Also useful for experienced dinghy and keelboat sailors and inshore racers.

Minimum Duration – Approximately 8-10 hours online

Minimum Age – None

RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship – ONLINE

Course cost £36 per person

A compulsory online course for new and revalidating RYA Commercial Endorsement holders. You can take this course anytime prior to your Commercial Endorsement application or renewal. Your PPR certificate will be valid either for your first Commercial Endorsement application or your next renewal.

Minimum Duration – Study online at your own pace

Minimum Age – None

Content – How you fit into the professional maritime world, importance of correct manning, keeping skills up to date, safe management of commercial vessels, the compulsory carriage and maintenance of safety equipment and how to create and implement risk control.

Certificate Issuing Criteria – An understanding that you have a duty of care to crew, passengers, and other water users, and you will be held to account if things go wrong.

RYA Professional Practices and Responsibilities (PPR) – ONLINE

A course and exam for anyone who owns a fixed or handheld marine VHF radio. A radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures. The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio either fixed or hand held.

Required Experience – None

Minimum Duration –  10 hours plus exam time. The exam will always be classroom based.

Minimum Age – 16

Content – Basics of radio operation, frequencies, distress, emergency and medical assistance procedures, making ship to shore telephone calls, Digital Selective Calling, Global Maritime Distress Safety System.

Certificate Issuing Criteria -To be able to operate the radio and know the procedures required to use the radio.

The Exam – SRC exams consist of a written theory exam and assessment in the practical use of marine VHF radios The exam fee is payable to the RYA. Details of booking the exam will be sent with the course booking confirmation email.

RYA VHF SRC Radio Course – ONLINE

Course cost £35 per person

A test of the rules and regulations of the inland waterways of Europe. You will need this if you require the inland category validated on your International Certificate of Competence.

Course material to be posted to you – None Optional: RYA European Waterways Regulations (G17). 

Required Experience – None

Minimum Duration – Learn the CEVNI regulations in your own time, at your own speed before taking the timed test online.

Minimum Age – While there is no minimum age for the CEVNI test, you cannot apply for an ICC below the age of 16.

Content – This is a test based on the CEVNI regulations. There is no formal training course. Students can study the signs, lights, buoyage and regulations using the book RYA European Waterways Regulations (G17).

Certificate Issuing Criteria – Able to identify and interpret the regulations of the European inland waterways.

RYA CEVNI – ONLINE

If you have taken your online Marine VHF Radio course via another centre and have the ‘Online course completion certificate’ we are more than happy to do your exam at our centre. However there is an admin charge of £40 payable to us to set up the centre etc. This is in addition to the Exam fee payed directly to the RYA.

A comprehensive introduction to chartwork navigation meteorology and the basics of seamanship. Invaluable for learning how to start making decisions on board and if you are considering taking the Day Skipper practical course.

Course material to be posted to you – Theory pack containing: RYA Training Carts, RYA Exercises Booklet, RYA Dayskipper shorebased notes, RYA Training Almanac, A plotter and dividers set

Required Experience – Some practical experience is desirable.

Minimum Duration – The course takes approximately 40 hours to complete with an assessment of 2 parts (1.5 hours for each) taken in one sitting.

Minimum Age – None

Content – Basics, Navigation, Tidal streams, Passage planning, Tidal heights, Collision regulations, Electronic navigation, Weather, Buoyage, Safety

Certificate Issuing Criteria – Successful completion of this course will earn you the RYA Dayskipper Shorebased certificate.

This course is delivered by Navathome.com, an RYA Recognised Training Centre specialising in online training. Upon enrollment you will be given access to the course for six months. If more time is required an admin fee wil be charged to extend. 

RYA Dayskipper Theory – ONLINE

Course cost £325 per person

A comprehensive introduction to chartwork navigation meteorology and the basics of seamanship. Invaluable for learning how to start making decisions on board and if you are considering taking the Day Skipper practical course.

Required Experience – It is a mandatory RYA requirement for the student to hold a full working knowledge of the theory to Day Skipper level for enrolment onto this course.

Minimum Duration – The course takes approximately 50-60 hours with a long assessment of 3 parts (IRPCS:1.5 hours, Passage Making A:1.5 hours and Passage Making B:2 hours). These can be taken in one sitting or as 3 separate papers.

Minimum Age – None

Content – Position, The magnetic compass, Tides, Tidal Streams, Buoyage, Lights, Pilotage, GPS and chart plotters, Echo sounders, Logs (speed and distance measuring), Deck log, Meteorology, Rules of the Road, Safety at Sea, Passage planning

Certificate Issuing Criteria – Successful completion of this course will earn you the RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore Theory certificate.

This course is delivered by Navathome.com, an RYA Recognised Training Centre specialising in online training. Upon enrollment you will be given access to the course for six months. If more time is required an admin fee wil be charged to extend. 

RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Theory – ONLINE

Course cost £295 per person

A course in astro navigation, worldwide meteorology and passage planning, which also unravels the mysteries of the sextant.

Course material to be posted to you – Theory pack containing: RYA shorebased notes, RYA Training Almanac, RYA Training sight redution tables, RYA exercises booklet, A plotter and dividers set may be purchased seperately.

Required Experience – Navigation to Coastal Skipper & Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased standard.

Minimum Duration – The course takes approximately 40 hours to complete with an assessment of 2 parts (2 hours) taken in one sitting.

Minimum Age – None

Content -The earth and the celestial sphere, The PZX triangle, The sextant, Measurement of time, Meridian altitudes, Sun stars and other sights, Compass checking, Satellite Navigation Systems, Great circle sailing, Meteorology, Passage planning, Passage making, Communications

Certificate Issuing Criteria – Successful completion of this course will earn you the RYA Ocean Yachtmaster Theory certificate.

Note: If the student wishes to take the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean oral exam, the RYA require the end of course theory assessment to be invigilated by an RYA Instructor at an RYA recognised Training Centre. Alternatively, the candidate can opt to take an extra theory paper during the oral exam.

RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Theory – ONLINE

Course cost £395 per person

Required Experience – Although no pre-course knowledge is required, we would suggest that this course is most appropriate for those students who may have studied some of the Day Skipper syllabus or, who require a refresher before continuing to study the advanced theory

Minimum Duration 

The pre-course revision element has been designed for the student to use as a self study programme to refresh and consolidate their Day Skipper theory knowledge as required.

The Coastal Yachtmaster course takes approximately 50-60 hours with a long assessment of 3 parts (IRPCS:1.5 hours, Passage Making A:1.5 hours and Passage Making B:2 hours). These can be taken in one sitting or as 3 separate papers.

RYA Coastal Yachtmaster Theory FASTTRACK – ONLINE

Many boat owners and skippers expect their onboard electrical system to be at least as reliable as that of a modern car, and are quite happy to just call an engineer should a fault occur.

The reality is that marine electrical systems do fail, and you can’t just ‘pull over’ out at sea; once offshore – you are the engineer!

RYA Interactive data sharing statement

To enable access to your online course we need to share some of your personal data with the RYA via your user profile in www.ryainteractive.org. This learning management website is hosted and maintained by a third party called Learning Pool, who will not use your personal information for any reason other than enabling your course.

Your name and email address will be entered on www.ryainteractive.org in order to create your user account. On your first access to the site, you will be asked to enter your address and date of birth. You will have access to the site for one year in order to complete your online course. During this period, your personal information will be held on the website by Learning Pool and be available to this training centre and the RYA for the purpose of managing your course.

Instructional support will be provided by this training centre for a period of 3 Months from the date of your course booking.

On completion of your course, your name, email, date of birth and address will be transferred to the RYA’s central database for the purpose of recording details of the course and any certification you gain as a result of it. This information allows the RYA to record your certification, to update any records they may already hold about you or your qualifications and to verify your certificate if required.

After one year from the date of your enrolment on a course, your user account will be removed from www.ryainteractive.org.

Full details of how the RYA will deal with your personal information will be displayed when you first access www.ryainteractive.org.

For the duration of your access to the site, your data will be held in accordance with the RYA Interactive Data Policy, Terms and Conditions.

If you receive a digital certificate downloaded from the RYA Interactive site on completion of your course, your name, address, date of birth and certificate details will be transferred to the RYA database and held in accordance with the RYA’s Privacy Policy.

Navathome is an RYA training centre which specialises in online navigation training and will not use your personal information for any reason other than enabling your course.

Your payment information will be collected by Sail & Powerboat Training ltd on behalf of Navathome. This information is collected by Sail & Powerboat Training ltd and is not passed on to any other organisation. Payment information for the purpose of logging you into the Navathome admin will not be retained once the payment is made. Your name and email address will be entered on www.navathome.com in order to create your user account. Your postal address will be provided in order to send your student pack. You will have access to the site for six months in order to complete your online course. During this period, your personal information will be held on the website by Navathome and may be available to Sail & Powerboat Training ltd who may have access to the Navathome database. This period maybe extended should you wish to extend your course access.

On completion of your course, your name and email will be retained by Navathome for the purpose of recording details of the course and any certification you gain as a result of it. This information allows Navathome to record your certification. Your Instructor will not hold any information for the purposes of Navathome student support after this date. Please note that this agent may hold information to enable provision of other training not associated with the Navathome course.

Should you not complete the course in the given time frame, your name and email will be retained by Navathome for the purpose of recording details of the course. This information allows Navathome to retain a record of coursework you have completed.

If you would like your personal data removed from www.navathome.com prior to the end of your access period or at any time before you have completed your course, you can request it by email. Please contact info@navathome.com giving your name and email address and the course you would like to delete. Please note that if you request deletion of your account before you have completed your course, your access to the course and records of your progress will be lost.

If you would like details of your online course removing from the Navathome database when you have completed the course, please email your request to info@navathome.com giving your name and email address. Please note that removal of course details from the Navathome database, means that any certification gained as a result of this course will not be verifiable by Navathome, nor would Navathome be able to help with a replacement certificate.
